Adult-use customers at Ohio dispensaries will see lower-strength edibles and drinks on shelves beginning Monday, Oct. 5, when new product limits take effect.
The figures below come from a customer guide that Trulieve, which lists eight Ohio dispensaries on its website, published on Sept. 29. The 10 milligram and 100 milligram edible limits are also described in a patient guide from Ohio Marijuana Card. Weedom of Speech has not yet reviewed the rule text from the Division of Cannabis Control and will update this story when it has.
New limits for adult-use products
- Edibles, such as gummies, chocolates and honey products: no more than 10 mg of THC per serving and 100 mg of THC per package.
- Beverages, powders and drops: no more than 10 mg of THC per unit and 120 mg of THC per package.
Medical patients keep higher limits
Registered medical patients are not affected by the lower caps, according to Trulieve’s guide. It says patients will continue to have access to:
- Edibles with up to 55 mg of THC per serving and 550 mg per package.
- Beverages, powders and drops with up to 110 mg of THC per unit, 55 mg per dose and 220 mg per package.
Products with certain additives come off shelves
The guide also says Ohio will no longer permit the sale of cannabis products that contain caffeine, melatonin, nicotine or similar additive ingredients after Oct. 5. It adds that the rule does not necessarily prohibit ingredients that naturally contain caffeine or vitamins, and gives coffee and chocolate as examples.
Products in that category can be sold through Oct. 4, according to the guide.
What it means for shoppers
Adult-use customers who buy higher-dose edibles should expect fewer of those options after Oct. 4. Patients who rely on stronger products can keep buying them with a valid medical registration.
If you are unsure whether a product you use is affected, ask your dispensary before Oct. 5.
